COMPUS Research Group

Our research group is a team devoted to the study of computational-corpus linguistics. This is an interdisciplinary research paradigm for the study of human languages and cognition, drawing insights from natural language processing, statistical learning, text mining and usage-based linguistics. We also work on the possibilities of applying corpus-based tools to the study of language teaching and learning.

Prerequisites

  • Those who are considering working on computational-corpus linguistics may be expected to have adequate knowledge of the following subjects:

    • Statistics
    • Basic Programming
    • Corpus Linguistics
    • Computational Linguistics
    • Topics on Quantitative Corpus Linguistics
  • Also, to come up with an interesting thesis project topic, one may also need to have (at least) one of the following specialties:

    • Advanced Acoustic Phonetics
    • Semantics
    • Pragmatics
    • Discourse Analysis
    • Lexical/Cognitive Semantics
    • Cognitive Linguistics
