NTNU ES-CAG joint colloquium Academics facing climate crisis - the case of France / Dr Patrick Hennebelle (CEA Saclay) Abstract: The climate and environmental crisis poses an ever-increasing threat to our societies. It is therefore more important than ever to seek to limit greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible. The academic world, as much as, if not more than, the rest of society, is strongly challenged. What attitude should we adopt to face these colossal challenges? Can we reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our own activities? During the presentation, I will briefly outline the current state of knowledge on global warming and the main sources of emissions in our societies. I will specifically describe the efforts that have been made in France to quantify emissions from research laboratories and the specific problems encountered in reduction efforts.
