3rd AOCC Program

Overview

Starting as part of scouting, mountaineering, and exploration, camping has gradually become a means of group and family leisure activity in last two decades. There are more than 100 organized campgrounds in Taiwan now. Most of them are farm or ranch based, riverside, or beach campgrounds. As Taiwan locates at the sub-tropical region, it’s hot and humid from May to September. Many campers stop doing their favorite activity in the summer.

Recently the Forestry Bureau has started planning of establishing campground in its 18 national forest recreation areas. It’s great news for campers in Taiwan. We therefore call for sharing of your knowledge and experience in the following themes during the full day symposium:

l          Leisure camping in the forest

l          Mutuality of interests – nature conservancy

l          Handicrafts in a forest campground

Furthermore, we offer you an opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience in helping the Forestry Bureau design a forest campground. All participants will stay two nights in the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, one of the 18 abovementioned. We encourage you to include the main themes of the symposium in your design. But don’t take it as a limitation as your creative is always the key to stand out. The winner will earn a special award.

Dasyueshan covers 4,000 hectares with altitudes from 2,000 to 3,000 meters. The forest vegetation has distributed across tropical, subtropical, temperate, and frigid forest belts. Dasyueshan Forest Recreational Area has the best primeval forest bath in Taiwan. Special scenic spots include Mt. Shaolai observatory, sky pond, the divine tree, bird watching, cloud viewing, and the sunrise and sunset. Be sure to bring your warm jacket and gears for walking and other activity with you.
