The Phantom of The Opera(1962)
In this version of the story, set in Victorian London, the Lord Ambrose D'Arcy stole the life's work of a poor composer, Professor Petrie. Petrie flew into a rage when he found out D'Arcy claimed his opera as his own work. In an attempt to destroy printing plates, Petrie was disfigured by nitric acid and he escaped to the sewer beneath the opera house. In the meantime, he secretly trained a young opera singer, Christine Charles, with whom he fell in love . Years later, D'Arcy was about to start production of one of Petrie's plays, and Petrie decided to terrorize the opera house and made sure it won't go ahead. After avenging himself on D'Arcy, Petrie made Christine a star in his lavish opera. Christine's fiancée, Harry Hunter researched the phantom's history and, after locating his whereabouts and finding him, decided to unmask the mysterious fellow. At the film's conclusion, Petrie was crushed to death by the falling chandelier as he tried to save Christine.
