Let's legalize all drugs!

1

We all know that some of drugs are illegal, but you know that drugs were once legal in World War 2. We can find that amphetamines were used in World War 2 as a way to combat depression and give soldiers a pick me up in battle to keep them awake to fight. Legal drugs is not only benefit to soldiers in fight but also can be used in medical. The famous case is marijuana. Marijuana can control nausea, stimulate appetite and decrease ocular pressure. So, why don’t we legalize all drugs, and enjoy the benefits.

First of all, the reason that all drugs should be legalized is it can end prison overcrowding. Prison overcrowding is a serious and persistent problem. United State Criminal justice experts attribute the exploding prison population to harsher sentencing laws, like illegal substance use. We all know that prison is to punish criminals for their crime, but there are so many drug addicts sent to jail, causing prison overcrowding problem. If drugs be legalized, we can improve this situation because no more drug addicts will be sent to the jail and the prison can just for whom commits crimes. In addition, legal drug can also cripple organized crime. It is evidently that many organized crime use drugs to control drug addicts. To get high-price drugs, those drug addicts, employed by organize crime, commit crimes, endly, incarcerated in jail, also causing prison overcrowding problem. So if all drugs be legalized, drugs’ price will not be high and can be controled by government. Legal drugs will eliminate this huge income source from under organized crime. Drug addicts will no longer commit violent crimes to get high-price drugs for their habits and no longer be incarcerated because of drugs or commit crimes. Additionally, it also can save prison overcrowding problem.

Second, legal drugs would be safer. You may question the statement, but it is true. Illegal drug trade today lacks many of safety signs and processes, like warning labels, product quality control and manufacturer accountability. Underground-making drugs may be mixed something that we don’t know to lower the manufacture cost, and it may hurt our body. In other words, we don’t know what we have taken and those drugs may kill ourselves. Like heroin, it can take our life if we take enough of it. If drugs be legalized, the government can control the substances of all drugs, and the doctor can control the usage of the drugs which drug addicts take. It will be more reliable and safer when taking drugs. Another safety problem is that drug users will inject heroin or other drugs into their body. The shortage of needles causes users to share needles, so they may be infected by same epidemic like AIDS. If drugs be legalized, then drug addicts can go to the hospital to inject drugs and the doctor can definitely control the usage of the drugs. It can also slow the spread of AIDS and other diseases.

On other perspective, legalizing drugs can save money. It has already mentioned in the second paragraph that legalizing drugs can eliminate the income source from organize crime and the drugs price will not be expensive anymore, but beside this, you may confuse that how can legal drugs save money? We all know that someone using drugs will be sent to jail, but have you thought about we, working hard for life and paying taxes, have to spend money taking care of these addicts in the prison. So. if all the drugs are legalized, the population of the jail will definitely decline, and we no longer have to spend so much money to raise these people. In addition, the government can take this huge money to do more significant things, such as giving low income family children lunch.

To sum up, legalizing drugs can be used in medical, end prison overcrowding, be more safer and save money. Though maybe it is a long way that drugs will be legalized in Taiwan, it is time for us to think about this issue. We know that in Taiwan, the economy now is not really well, and frankly speaking we can’t waste any sources of money, especially it is the money that Taiwanese have paid for taxes. Beside, legalizing drugs will cripple the organized crime and deter addicts from committing crimes, thus Taiwan will have a safer society, and the additional benefit is that it also can slow the spread of AIDS. It is obvious that if all drugs be legalized, it will be benefit to Taiwanese safety, economy and health. Therefore, this issue can’t be overemphasized anymore. Let’s legalize all drugs, and enjoy the benefits.
